Dr. Rama Mani, Senior Research Associate, Centre for International Studies, University of Oxford; Director, Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect: Southern Cultural Perspectives

Dr. Rama Mani is an international scholar and practitioner of peace, justice and human security. She is a Senior Research Associate at the University of Oxford’s Centre for International Studies. She is a co-covenor of Agents of Transformation, to promote culturally and spiritually informed conflict transformation. She is also an Associate Faculty member at Geneva Centre for Security Policy, where she was previously Director of the "Global Peace and Security" Course for decision makers. She was formerly Executive Director of the International Ethnic Studies, Sri Lanka, and Africa Strategy Manager and Policy Coordinator for Conflict for Oxfam GB addressing conflicts across Africa while based in Ethiopia and Uganda. She was Senior Strategy Advisor to the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue and Senior External Relations Officer for the Commission on Global Governance, both in Geneva. She authored Beyond Retribution: Seeking Justice in the Shadows of War (Polity-Blackwell 2002, reprinted 2007), and co-edited Responsibility to Protect: Cultural Perspectives from the Global South with Thomas Weiss (Routledge 2011). Dr. Mani is the Vice Chair of the Academic Council for the United Nations System, and serves on the several other Boards including, International Journal of Transitional Justice and Global Governance. Dr. Mani holds a Ph.D in Political Science from the University of Cambridge, UK, and an M.A. in International Affairs from Johns Hopkins University, USA.
