To whom does the world belong?

Vandana Shiva calls for more respect for the commons

Hamburg, 17 August 2011. On 23 August, at 6 pm, Indian scientist and activist Dr. Vandana Shiva will speak on “To whom does the world belong?” in the framework of the lecture series "Share & Win – Art and Theory of the Commons” at the Kampnagel International Summer Festival in Hamburg. This evening event is held in English with free entry. The discussion is facilitated by Thorsten Fischermann, Die ZEIT.

Vandana Shiva has campaigned for many years to ensure that common goods such as seeds and water belong to all, now and in the future. The topics of her books concern the privatization of nature, food security and “Water Wars” as well as sociological models of a different kind of society (Earth Democracy: Justice, Sustainability, and Peace). Through her commitment she has become one of the protagonists of the global justice movement. She is a member of the World Future Council and with the publication of her notebook “The Corporate Control of Life” (in German) she has been designated one of the hundred “Women Thinkers of Today” for the next documenta.

She is a guest of the Bucerius Summer School on Global Governance and the International Summer Festival Hamburg in cooperation with the World Future Council, the Initiative for a GMO-free Hamburg Region and the GLS Bank.
