Zanzibar's Children’s Act wins Future Policy Award 2015

Zanzibar’s pioneering child rights law is the winner of the 2015 Future Policy Award on securing children’s rights. Silver Awards were granted to Finland's Basic Education Act and Maryland's Environmental Literacy Standards. The awards were presented at a ceremony in Geneva by the World Future Council, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and UNICEF on October 20. For more information on the winning policies, please click here.

Zero Project Conference 2016

From 10-12th February 2016, the Essl Foundation, the World Future Council and the European Foundation Centre is hosting the Zero Project Conference at the United Nations Office in Vienna, Austria. More than 500 innovators, decision-makers as well as opinion leaders from more than 70 countries are participating, discussing best policies on inclusive education. For more information, click here.

100% renewable energy, zero poverty, are you in?

Ahead of the UN Climate Summit, a group of NGOs  is asking governments, “are you in?” - as part of a new report and video which highlight the development benefits of the transition to 100% renewable energy. This comes as Heads of State travel to Paris and thousands of people prepare to take to the streets in more than 150 countries to call for a fossil free future. Read more in this press release.

New study: Financing the Green Climate Fund

A sustainable future is only possible if we can limit global warming to 2°C. In order to achieve this goal, an estimated $1000 billion need to be invested annually in developing climate friendly energy production solutions. This can be accomplished through the purchase of Green Climate Bonds by Central Banks. Read our new study (Updated: 11/2015) which outlines why and how.

Links between climate change and nuclear weapons

In partnership with PNND and the RLA Foundation we organised two events in Geneva on the linkages between climate change and nuclear weapons. The first event on 17 November considered the experience of the Marshall Islands in dealing with both threats, including their recent nuclear disarmament case at the ICJ. On 27 November, we launched our new 'Climate-Nuclear Nexus' report, which examines the dynamic interplay between these two critical security challenges.
